Atheism 13. There is no Soul

The notion that the body requires a "soul" that somehow lives on after death is inconsistent with the scientific evidence. The harbouring of this belief harks back to the Cartesian dualism of mind and body. The problem with this is that the brain is the seat of the mind - and the brain is only constructed of material parts -there is no place for a soul to exist - anything that is presumed to be non-material in the mind is the product of emergent processes.Occam's razor dictates that we should prefer the scientific view - since this does not needlessly complicate the situation.Everything about the body and mind can be explained without referring to any such concept as a soul.
Consequently, mystical beliefs in auras, energies and higher powers cannot possibly rely on the notion of an immaterial soul- if there is anything to the involvement of Crystals and healing then it is via the physics of the human body not by some mysterious force that scientists know nothing about.
