Wendy Bristow is Metro's new astrologer. A former magazine editor, Wendy
is now a full-time stargazer with an array of clients who rely on her predictive
powers. She hopes her horoscopes will be of practical use to everyone, offering
them a chance to think about the 'bigger picture'. You can start reading
them from today on Page 39.
· How did you get into astrology?
As a teenager I used to read my stars, just like everyone else, to see
if that boy I fancied was likely to snog me. I did it for years as a hobby
and taught myself how to do proper astrological charts. Friends then asked
me to do charts for them, and then their friends asked. At that point I thought
if I was doing charts for people I didn't know I needed to get properly trained.
I got my qualification from the Faculty of Astrological Studies.
· How long did it take?
I did a basic certificate, then a two year diploma. Astrology is immensely
complicated and the Sun sign columns in newspapers are just
the tip
of the iceberg. There are 12 planets you need to look at when you do
someone's chart but the Sun's the only heavenly body everyone knows from
their star sign. To do a proper chart you need to look at 12 different elements,
making it 12 times more accurate than working only with the Sun sign. There
are also a variety of different astrologies and specialisms. Some people
study the astrology of the world, using it to predict different trends.
Financial
astrology is huge. Lots of big companies use financial astrologers but
that's not talked about much. You can do astrologies of relationships. Then
there are different types of astrology - like Indian Vedic astrology, which
went in a different direction centuries ago.
· What sort do you prefer?
I use ordinary Western astrology. I'm interested in Sun sign columns
because when people read them in Metro it is a moment to think about the
bigger picture. It brings you back to yourself. It can also help you practically
in your life. If you know a day will be stressful you'll be better prepared
to deal with it. I want to make it practically useful to people - because
life is already stressful enough.
· How does astrology work?
The short answer is it's a mystery but it does
work.
I see it work all the time. Without wanting to sound too much like a
hippy, we're part of the universe and it's all connected.
If the
Moon can influence the tides then, seeing as we're about 70 per cent
water, maybe it can affect us, too. There's a cutting edge movement in astrology
now that looks at quantum physics. It seems to fit better with astrology
than anything else we've had in science so far.
· In what way?
Quantum physics
is all about things
making
patterns -
fractals that
you can draw. You can see the same patterns in a snail's shell as you
see in the stars in the universe. It's as if they're the same.
Astrology
is about patterns in time.
· What's been your most accurate prediction?
A magazine asked me to do a prediction for Britney Spears to prepare
some questions for an interview with her. I said she might be having a secret
crush and something big could come of it. Two weeks later she got married
in Las Vegas. I thought, 'yay, I rock'. The chart also had an element of
scandal to it which was part of the event as the marriage lasted only a day.
I also get things with private individuals all the time - people who have
maybe inquired about a job after they've had their chart done and ended up
getting it.
· What's your explanation when you get it wrong?
The most accurate thing you can predict is how people will be feeling.
You can't always predict the precise events. With Britney, I knew there'd
be a secret love that would become embarrassing - I couldn't have said 'she's
going to marry her childhood sweetheart and it will blow up in her face'.
So, when I get it wrong, and this is true of every astrologer, it's often
down to people's interpretation. Sometimes when you have all the love planets
in the right places you may tell someone their relationship will work out
well, but then they could split up and meet the real love of their life the
following week. The chart would still be correct. The planets are symbols,
not words, so they're very open to interpretation.

Dear Metro,
I was dismayed to find your new astrologer has the same dismal ignorance
of science that seems to be the norm for astrologers. Her comment "Quantum
Physics- is all about things making patterns- fractals that you can draw...."
is typical of the
archetypal
pseudo-scientific gobbledygook that such people use in order to plagiarise
science to lend credibility to their nutcase ideas.
Quantum Mechanics is nothing whatever to do with patterns - it is to do with
probability - it is Fractals that are to do with patterns - I should know
I have been studying both and have dedicated over 300 articles on some 5
websites trying to inform people like Wendy Bristow why Fractals and Quantum
Physics undermine astrology and show it for what it is - and outmoded and
superstitious view of the world. I have also articles on astrology and have
followed my own scopes from several sources and with a few minor exceptions
can say with some authority that even with 12 elements in her charts - there
is no sound principle on which astrology is based and if there was any
relationship between the amount of water in our bodies and the moon - I am
quite sure looking at
Newtons laws of mass
would tell me more than speculations about who I am to meet or what my
mood is.
For Wendy's benefit - I suggest she look up my website
members.fortunecity.com/templarseries/index.html
- which might help her tell the difference between Quantum Mechanics and
Fractals - which whilst
overlapping
in some regard are quite different areas of research and one is certainly
not the other. |
